Mettallography

Introduction

Obtaining the microstructure goes a long way in predicting the properties of the metal. Successfully obtaining the microstructure is by itself an art, for those who are deft at hand and sharp at mind.

Event Format

The event consists of TWO rounds:

Preliminary Round

Final Round                :     Task I   (Preparation of a specimen)

                                                Task II (Questionnaire)

In the preliminary round, the participants are required to identify the material and the micro- constituents using the microstructure of the given specimen.

In the final round, Task I, Participants are required to prepare a metallographic specimen.  Points will be awarded for the clarity of the microstructure obtained.

In the final round, Task II, Participants are required to answer the multiple choice questions on “ Metallography & Microstructure of Engineering materials”.

Rules

Open to all engineering students who have a "metallurgical eye" for metals and materials and skill in design.

Teams of maximum THREE from any college can take part.

Teams will be selected to the final round based on the performance in the preliminary round.

Judges decision will be the final.
