Mettallography
- Introduction
-
Obtaining the microstructure goes a long way in predicting the properties of the metal. Successfully obtaining the microstructure is by itself an art, for those who are deft at hand and sharp at mind.
- Event Format
-
The event consists of TWO rounds:
* Preliminary Round
* Final Round : Task I (Preparation of a specimen)
Task II (Questionnaire)
* In the preliminary round, the participants are required to identify the material and the micro- constituents using the microstructure of the given specimen.
* In the final round, Task I, Participants are required to prepare a metallographic specimen. Points will be awarded for the clarity of the microstructure obtained.
* In the final round, Task II, Participants are required to answer the multiple choice questions on “ Metallography & Microstructure of Engineering materials”.
- Rules
-
* Open to all engineering students who have a "metallurgical eye" for metals and materials and skill in design.
* Teams of maximum THREE from any college can take part.
* Teams will be selected to the final round based on the performance in the preliminary round.
* Judges decision will be the final.
